Requirements
The Big Mountain Ski Team is not a novice ski team program. All team members, regardless of age, need to ski at a definite (defined) skill level. Skiers need to be able to link parallel turns on a long, steep groomed run (like Alpine Bowl). Skiers need to be able to handle off-piste runs like Lower Estelle with reasonably good form and high level of control in variable snow conditions. Skiers also need to demonstrate a sense of terrain, snow conditions, and be able to communicate effectively with coaches and peers. Over time, they should be able to recognize and handle or avoid hazards inherent to the challenging terrain at Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley. When a participant demonstrates the skiing described above and the basic savvy to ski the whole mountain with poise and confidence, he/she is ready for the Big Mountain Team. Helmets & eye protection are required for all team members.
